Habitat Hero - Community Science & Participatory GIS as a Framework for Urban Pollinator Habitat Restorations

Blending participatory GIS and community science, a partnership between Grand Valley & John Ball Zoo created a GIS framework for urban pollinator habitat restorations. Using Web GIS, Habitat Hero creates a database of participants across W MI with qualitative spatial data used for further analysis. A dashboard was shared with participants that contains survey results, interactive maps, and more!

SEMCOG recently launched a Wetland Mapper and StoryMap to support Southeast Michigan in managing floods, building climate resilience, improving community health, and protecting natural assets. These tools allow users to explore wetlands by type and function and learn about those in their community. SEMCOG staff will provide an overview of the data and the tool’s development.
